When do Claude usage limits reset?
The session comes back after 5 hours, the week at a fixed time set for your account. Here is how to know when, without guessing.
The session: every 5 hours
Anthropic describes a “rolling five-hour session window”. When the session runs out, Claude Code blocks requests “until the reset time shown in the message”, and can resume on its own at that time.
The week: at a fixed time
The weekly limit resets “at a fixed time each week that is assigned to your account”. That day and time do not move, whether you start using Claude on a Monday or a Thursday, or with your subscription date.
Switching models does not restore access: the session and weekly limits are shared across all models.
Where to see the exact time
- On claude.ai: Settings > Usage. Bars show the session and the week, with the time left and the weekly reset time.
- In Claude Code: the /usage command shows your plan limits.
- In the limit message: Claude Code states when it will resume.
Anthropic also occasionally grants a one-off limit reset to eligible plans, from the web or the desktop app.

When does the 5-hour session start?
Anthropic does not say. The simplest way is to read the time left in Settings > Usage, or in JaugeAI.
Can I change my weekly reset time?
No: Anthropic assigns it to your account and it stays the same every week.
Does switching from Opus to Sonnet unlock my session?
No. The session and the week are shared across all models; only the Opus and Sonnet limits depend on the model.
