Our advice
Move to Max 5x.
$100 a month, before tax · $80 more a month
An estimate: Anthropic expresses Max usage in multiples of Pro per session (5x or 20x), without publishing an absolute cap, and without saying whether the weekly limit follows exactly the same ratio. Prices in US dollars, before tax.
How the calculation works
Anthropic doesn’t publish absolute caps, but it does give a ratio between plans: Max offers 5 or 20 times Pro’s usage per session. So the calculator starts from what you already experience. If your session runs out after an hour and you want to work for four, you need about four times your current plan’s usage.
Same reasoning for the week: if the weekly limit hits after two days and you work five, you need about two and a half times your plan. The calculator keeps the larger of the two needs.
Plans and prices
| Plan | Usage per session | Price per month (before tax) |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | The baseline | $20, or $17 billed annually |
| Max 5x | 5 times Pro | $100 |
| Max 20x | 20 times Pro | $200 |

Before you upgrade
- Hand everyday work to Sonnet rather than Opus: Claude Code’s documentation recommends it to save your limits.
- Lower the effort before switching models, and clear the context between tasks with /clear.
- For an occasional overrun, usage credits take over without changing plans.
Frequently asked questions
Is Max 20x worth it over Max 5x?
It gives 4 times Max 5x’s usage per session for twice the price. If you need more than 5 times Pro’s usage, it’s the only plan that keeps up.
Does the weekly limit follow the same ratio?
Anthropic states the ratio per session and doesn’t say whether the weekly limit follows exactly the same one. The calculator applies it to both, as an estimate.
I never hit my limits on Max. Can I go down?
Maybe, but without measuring you can’t tell by how much. JaugeAI shows your real peak usage to settle it.
